Taking Mindful Breaks at Work

The Problem

Many employees are feeling burnout and unproductive in their lives and at work. They may not be taking enough breaks or taking the wrong breaks for their needs.

The Solution

This short eLearning module educates the learner about the value of breaks as well as the different type of breaks. Although employees might think skipping breaks will make them more productive, by taking this course the learner can learn how to take the best type of break for their job tasks and feel at peace with taking breaks.

The Process

I researched the topic by reading different articles. I then determined the look and feel, the visual narrative, created graphics in Canva, developed a design doc, and developed the final product with Articulate Rise.

I gamified the course by having the learner collect stamps as they traveled around Spain by train and completed the training.

The Result

In the evaluative phase, I conducted a final review by testing a small pilot group who completed the module. The feedback provided from the interviews helped me make final changes before launching the course. The feedback I got from the testing was that I should add a gratitude journal, and use the light color green instead of the dark color for the border design. I also received feedback on changing the stamps so that they showed a journey path and included a type of break with an example.

Once the changes were made and the course was implemented my pilot group stated that they saw a drop in their stress from utilizing the advice found in the training.

I think it’s important to use themes in my work drawing from culture so that the learner can be engaged on multiple levels. The use of the travel theme as well as beautiful graphics, enhances the training and makes the concepts more memorable for the learner.
